Why You Should Get A BPI Certification

by Jeff on February 3, 2010

If you read the post yesterday about RESNET Certification, you’ll know that getting accredited as an home energy audit professional is an important step in starting your career in this industry. However, there are more than one types of energy auditor accreditation programs to choose out there, including Building Performance Institute (BPI) certification.

Why Get A BPI Certification?

The Building Performance Institute is much like RESNET in that they publish and track standards for the energy efficiency of buildings nationwide. While possibly not as ubiquitous as RESNET’s guidelines, BPI is still recognized internationally as an important organization in the energy auditing field.

There are still some areas of the country or certain organizations that require a BPI certified energy auditor to perform audits on buildings. In some cases, a BPI certified professional may have to perform the audit or contract work in order for the client to qualify for certain tax credits or other incentives.

Not all home energy auditors choose to get their BPI certification, but an increasing number are pursuing it so that they can attract more clients and prove their credibility within the industry. If you are interested in learning more about getting you accreditation, check out the BPI certification section of the Home Energy Team Institute website or sign up for a home energy audit training course now to prepare for your exams.
